Contact Lenses

We fit all types of contact lenses; such as, soft, hard, gas permeable, disposable, astigmatism and bifocal. And because we've been doing it a long time, we have lots of experience. That makes us experts in those hard to fit eyes.

Evaluation for Contact Lens

Successful contact lens wear begins with a comprehensive eye examination and a thorough fitting by one of our doctors. We have access to essentially all contact lens brands including custom designed lenses. And we have a huge inventory of contacts in our offices. So, the chances are good you'll wear lenses home on your first visit. The choice of contact lenses is based upon the clinical findings and your lifestyle and personal preferences. You are evaluated with the lenses in place in the first half hour of wear and again at one to two weeks. Additional visits may be required depending on the complexity of the fitting.

First Time Contact Lens Wearers

First time contact lens wearers require a special dispensing visit. This is usually done on the first visit. The contact lens technician trains the new wearer who then must demonstrate proficiency in placement and removal of the lens. Lens wearers are provided with instructions for proper hygiene, disinfection instructions and centering de-centered lens.

The patient receives a care kit containing a storage case and solutions for cleaning, rinsing and disinfection. A wearing schedule and instruction booklet are provided. A variety of products are available for contact lens care and we will select the one most suitable to your needs.

Follow up visits are necessary for the new contact lens wearer. As the new wearer gradually adapts to the contact lenses, changes can occur which may require modification or lens change.

Your comfort and eye health are our primary concern.

FAQ's About Contact Lens Wear

We provide the best and most innovative technology in contact lens products. Here are some common questions and answers.

Can I use my prescription for glasses to order a pair of contact lenses?

Your eyeglass prescription is only a part of your contact lens prescription. A contact lens requires a number of separately designed measurements and specifications, such as your individual lens power, lens curvature, diameter, polymer, thickness and edge design.

What types of contact lenses are available?

Contact lenses are classified into these two basic types: soft lenses and gas permeable lenses. Each type is available in a variety of designs.

Soft contact lenses are made of a flexible water-loving material. Water contents vary from 24% to 76%. Oxygen reaches the eye through the lens.

Gas permeable lenses have replaced the old hard (PMMA) lenses because they are safer for the eye. Gas permeable lenses are composed of a firm plastic material and do not contain water. The lenses permit oxygen to pass directly through the lens material to the eye.

What are disposable lenses?

Disposable contact lenses can be worn once and discarded or they can be worn for one or two weeks; removed and cleaned daily and then replaced. Frequent replacement lenses are replaced at intervals of 1 to 3 months, removed, cleaned and disinfected each day.

Disposable and frequent replacement lenses are available in a wide range of powers and designs, including bifocals and lenses for astigmatism.

Can I wear contact lenses if I have astigmatism?

Yes, astigmatism no longer gets in the way of successful contact lens wear. Today there is an astigmatic contact lens for every prescription. Many of these toric (having 2 curves) lenses are available as planned replacement and even disposable products. Gas permeable lenses have always been an excellent mode of astigmatism correction, and they are better than ever, with the new designs having the highest oxygen transmission ever available.

I wear bifocals. Can I wear contact lenses?

Yes, there are several options:
  • Wear bifocal contact lenses, available in soft, disposable soft and gas permeable designs
  • One eye wears a lens for near vision, this is called monovision
  • Wear contact lenses corrected for distance and slip on reading glasses when needed

How often must I wear my lenses and how long can I leave the lenses in my eyes?

You must wear gas permeable lenses with regularity to keep your eyes adapted to the lenses. Soft lenses provide you with greater flexibility; they can be worn full time or part time.

Am I too old for contact lenses?

Age is not a factor in wearing contact lenses. Successful lens wearers are committed to caring for the lenses as recommended. If you have a physical condition that makes it difficult to handle your lenses we can train a family member to assist you.

Can I wear contact lenses while playing sports?

Contact lenses are ideal for athletes. You will probably find that your peripheral vision is greatly enhanced and that your depth perception is also improved. Contact lenses are more comfortable during physical activity and they don't steam up!

Can I wear contact lenses if I have dry eyes?

Depending on the cause of your dry eyes, you may be able to wear contact lenses successfully. Several approaches are used that may allow you to wear contacts, including new silicone based lens materials, new moisture drops, and/or treatment of the condition with medicines.

How do I begin?

Just mention that you are interested in contact lenses during your eye exam. You may also call the office to schedule an appointment.
